REVIEW: "The Masonic Myth" by Jay Kinney →
Mark Frauenfelder (of Boing Boing) mentioned that he is a Mason - and has recently posted a review about “The Masonic Myth”, by Jay Kinney.
Kinney (also a Mason) released this within a week of the new Dan Brown book, “The Lost Symbol” - and according to the review, it’s an attempt to replace “the phony facts with the real story.”
Sounds like an...

first annual william j. florence day | 2008.07.26
Yes, I know that this is several months late, but I was wandering through pictures from this summer and thought that this would be amusing to post. So here it goes.
July 26th marks the birth of William J. Florence, one of the founders of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S or Shriners). He along with a Noble and Brother Walter Flemming started the Shrine right...

my trek to the grave of brother daniel tompkins
The other night I was randomly walking by St. Mark’s church on 2nd Avenue and Stuyvesant Street after our normal Tuesday meeting at McSorley’s Old Ale House. I noticed that the park was still open and I was aware that Peter Stuyvesant was buried there. Peter Stuyvesant was a Dutch Governor of New Amsterdam and a very controversial figure. So I went in to check it out.
Upon walking about the very...

in search of more light.
Brethren, Nobles, anyone and everyone, Mason and non,
The Brothers over at modernMason and I have been emailing each other on various social sites for quite a while now. And it appears that they have enjoyed my blogs and postings about my various nerdy quests and activities. I suppose an introduction is in order. My name is Isaac Moore. I was brought into the light a few years ago in Franklin...

punks. in the masons?
Worshipful brother J.R. Roach and the brethren of Cambridge Amicable Lodge
From the Boston Herald - June 9, 2008:
Stodgy lodges, traditional initiations and secret handshakes would seem to be the antithesis of punk rock.
But a diverse group of Hub rockers are embracing centuries-old fraternal ideals to become the new face of the Freemasons in Boston.
“It’s not a religion, and it’s...

looking for a masonic ring?
When I became a Master Mason, I spent weeks scouring the Internet for a place that sold Masonic rings that were durable, fairly inexpensive, subtle - but also really sharp, and particularly were SILVER in color. I am not a huge fan of gold jewelry, and have always been partial to silver or stainless steel. Those weeks of searching paid off a year ago, and I purchased a ring from Stainless...

of rings and emblems.
A story that a Brother passed along to me, that I found interesting—and something to keep in mind.
Several years ago, the story is told of a Mason who always wore his Masonic ring and lapel pin when in public. On some occasions, he rode the bus from his home to the downtown area. On one such trip and when he sat down, he discovered the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much...

my first birthday - masonic, that is.
It’s been a year to the day since I was initiated and made a Mason—something that I consider one of the best things I have ever chosen to do in life.
Since that night a year ago, I have met and made connections with other Brothers around the globe and established friendships that I know will last a lifetime. I have become part of a very vibrant, energetic Blue Lodge where we are seeing...

modern tools.
I know without a doubt that 21st century technology has a place within the Temple walls, to assist in building and strengthening them. I have decided that it’s going to be my goal for my work at my Blue Lodge to help to make this happen.
In order to best provide information to men about how to become Masons, we need to “enter their world” through digital means and the Internet—via blogs, podcasts...

On October 13, 2007 it will have been 700 years ago that the medieval Knights Templer, the richest and most powerful order of knights in the world, were arrested all across France by King Phillip IV.
Now a group of Indiana Freemasons known as the Knights Templar will commemorate the event in a ceremony on Saturday, October 13, 2007 in Shelbyville, Indiana, dressed in medieval chain mail, helmets...
